Academics and fun finish the school year

Our students and teachers packed a great deal into April and May. Each activity gets a link, or a story below:

    • STEM Day, April 1, Saturday: our students presented their fun studies
    • Students took the national tests, the Iowa Assessments, and do stunningly well, April 17-20, This story is already linked on the homepage.
    • Younger students explore historic Fort Selden, April 28. This, too has its own post.
    • Three one-act plays by the students, May 6, Saturday: Video is on YouTube. Year-long practice in theater club culminated in three plays, Camp Granada – the Musical (a snapshot here), The Pineapple Estates Mystery, and Sharknado.
    • The end-of-term performance – song by students in early K through 7,May 13, Saturday. Months of practice by students of all grades made for great songs in English, Chinese, and Spanish. Here are second-graders:
    • Cast party for the one-act plays, May 17, Wednesday after school. The students worked for months on excellent plays, so here’s a celebration of their work.
    • Field day – athletic fun all day, May 24, Wednesday. Students of all ages participated in games for fun and to challenge themselves. Teacher Elizabeth Brasher (PE as well as English, Social Studies, and Music) organized the day, with help from parents and fellow teachers.

  • Science demo, middle-schoolers to the whole school, May 25, Thursday: Middle-school science class members and teacher Vince Gutschick create fun and learning with liquid nitrogen, melt-in-your-hand gallium metal, “Slime,” and soap made from olive oil.
  • Our last day closes with a picnic, May 26, Friday. Teacher Elizabeth Brasher hands out many medals for athletic results from the Field Day
