About LCA

Purpose

The purpose of Las Cruces Academy is to enhance people's lives through education and community-building.  Superficially, we're a private school for children who are gifted or advanced; really, we're much more.  LCA Outreach, the arm of LCA dedicated to engaging and educating others in the community, was formed the same day LCA itself was.  Pushing bright and motivated children to fulfill their potential is worthwhile by itself, but cultivating creative, knowledgeable, and ethical leaders, while enriching the surrounding community is our ultimate goal.

That goal is precisely why Las Cruces Academy is a school for gifted and advanced children.  By exercising our students' intellects and continually instilling the value of service in them, we plan to provide Las Cruces with graduates who will not only have already given back significantly to their community, but who will put Las Cruces on the map as the hometown of extraordinary scientists, artists, diplomats, and more.  To learn more about how we plan to do that, you can visit the curriculum, philosophy, and people pages.  Our legal basis is detailed in our Articles of Incorporation and our By-laws.

Communication with Parents

Communication with the parents and guardians of our students is very important.  We send out a weekly newsletter describing the events and academic material covered in each of the classes.  The teachers also frequently speak with the parents when the students are being dropped off or picked up at the ends of the school day.  Individual parent-teacher meetings are available to interested parents at the end of each of the four grading periods.

Communication with the Public and with Parents of Potential Students

We welcome anyone in the community to contact us and discuss the Academy and education in general, as well as to offer support of any kind.  On our part, we now have a general newsletter.  Rather than focusing on specific students and groups in the school, this newsletter is aimed at the public as a whole and also to inform parents who are considering enrolling their children about our current activities and thoughts.  If you are interested, you can sign up to receive newsletter issues as they come out, by clicking here. You can view the latest issue, along with all previous issues, in the archives.
